Check out this article talking about how kids (starting from age three)spend many hours on internet -> http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2317450/Parents-let-children-use-internet-aged-spending-hours-day-online-start-going-school.html
You should know what your child is doing on Facebook. Does she chat, play games, likes pages? There are no firm guidelines about how many hours a teen should be on Facebook. That can change from parent to parent. The real question is whether time on the site is interfering with your child’s daily life, and is negatively affecting her life.
Ask yourself these questions:
- Is she spending more time alone so that she can log onto Facebook?
- Is she spending a lot of time in her bedroom by herself?
- Is she irritable or staying up too late for no apparent reason?
- Is she doing worse in studies because of too much of studies?
- Is she avoiding her hobby or going out with friends to be on Facebook?
Some teen spend excessive time on Facebook because they might be facing issues like stress, depression, low self-esteem or loneliness If you think this might be the case, talk to your child about what is going on in her life. Try to solve her problem. Tap into your child’s interests and find an activity she’ll enjoy. Start a new hobby for her like painting, dancing, some new sport..
We as parent are concerned about our kids entering into the world of Social Media, but with a little parental control, Social Media and Networking can be a very useful tool for our kid. But there are great advantages to be active on Facebook. Your kid can know about latest updates by liking news page on Facebook, also it is a great way to stay in touch with friends and extended family.. We as parents, teachers, seniors need to explain children about the pros and cons of social media and help them to use it wisely.
